18.07.2016, World Listening Day, the starting point of the walk at Luma station in Hammarby which is a relatively young neighbourhood famous for its green and sustainable urban planning. I am waiting for the participants to gather, listening to a flock of birds occupying a tree nearby.
This gathering point is designed as to resemble an amphitheatre of some kind. The half-circular, wooden sitting area is completed by two blocks on the opposite site. Some sounds, the more spontaneous and sudden, seem to be bouncing between the elements of this semi-enclosure
At the waterfront overlooking Sodermalm on the left hand side and the continuation of Hammarby on the right.
Despite the openness toward the city, the soundscape is dominated by the splashing water at the bottom and occasional planes cutting across the sky above which makes this place feel somewhat insulated/isolated from the rest of the city.
Thick and all-consuming sound of rushing water (also a ferry docking and leaving that didn't make it into the recording).
Quiet ducks making sounds that weren't loud enough to make it onto the record
